DLA Piper (Canada) LLP is pleased to announce that the second annual Corporate Crime, Compliance and Investigations Symposium will take place throughout the month of October. Live webinar sessions will be held every Tuesday and Thursday, with each week focusing on a different topic presented by outstanding leaders from both DLA Piper and other global organizations.

The eight sessions will cover compliance, investigations, emerging issues and the latest industry developments. Week one and two delve into compliance program best practices and global investigations including how to avoiding cross-border investigation pitfalls. The third week focuses on emerging issues in cryptocurrency and current ESG problems and future trends, while the fourth highlights important developments in both recent Russian sanctions and the overhaul of the Competition Act. 

Please register in advance to attend the sessions, all of which will be broadcast live. Recordings will be available for a limited period to delegates who registered in advance.

Week 1: Compliance | October 4 & 6

In this roundtable, a group of seasoned compliance executives will discuss compliance best practices across sectors and jurisdictions. Beyond the theory, what are the practical realities confronted by compliance departments? How do you best mitigate the risks while remaining committed to the objectives of the business and its leaders? What key developments do you see on the horizon? These are some of the questions that will be addressed.

On June 23, 2022, the Competition Act was amended with diverse changes including the criminalization of wage-fixing and no-poach agreements between employers, private enforcement and expansion of the abuse of dominance regime, increased penalties for criminal and civil misconduct, changes affecting pre-merger notifications and drip pricing. Yet this is only the beginning. The government is undertaking a broader consultation for reforms that could shift the goal-posts even further.
